WHAT TO EXPECT FROM
A FERTILITY ASSESSMENT?

  • A fertility assessment consists of physical exams for both males and females. For women, a vaginal ultrasound and an x-ray called HSG will be performed. For men, a semen analysis will be performed.

Tests we offer

Hystrosalpingogram (HSG)

  • HSG is one of the first fertility tests that may be ordered by your physician. The procedure is used to view your fallopian tubes and uterus and is routinely recommended for women who are having difficulty conceiving or have a history of miscarriages.

Semen Analysis

  • What is a semen analysis?
Semen Analysis is a fertility test that evaluates the quality of the sperm in a man’s semen.. You will collect a sample of your semen either at home or at our Columbus Circle clinic. The sample will be provided to our dedicated Andrology lab for analysis. The results of the semen analysis measure important factors like the quantity, shape, size, and movement of the sperm. You will receive the results of your semen analysis within 24 hours.

HSG STEP-BY-STEP

Step 1

During the procedure, you will recline on the exam table and place your legs into a pair of stirrups. A speculum (the same type used during a routine gynecological exam) is used to open the vaginal canal.

Step 2

A thin tube, called a cannula, is inserted through the vagina and into the cervix (the opening of the uterine cavity). Liquid contrast dye is pushed through the cannula to fill the uterine cavity. If there are no blockages, the fallopian tubes will also fill with liquid.

Step 3

When the uterus and tubes are filled, an x-ray imaging device called a fluoroscope is positioned over the pelvis. A series of images are taken. The exam should last between 5 and 15 minutes. Your results will be ready within a few days.
