GENETIC COUNSELING SERVICE

Preconception genetic counseling allows individuals of all backgrounds to discuss their family and personal histories, test options and types of tests available to them prior to becoming pregnant. PGT-A and PGT-M testing of the embryos can also be reviewed with a genetic counselor that specializes in preconception genetic counseling.

WHAT IS A GENETIC COUNSELOR?

A genetic counselor is a healthcare professional with unique specialized graduate degrees in the areas of both medical genetics and counseling.

They work as part of a healthcare team, providing risk assessment, education, and support to individuals and families who are patients of New Hope Fertility Center.

Genetic counselors also interpret genetic test results, provide supportive counseling, and serve as patient advocates. Genetic counselors are trained to interpret test results and explain information to patients in a way that is easy for their patients to understand.

 DISCUSS PGT-A/PGT-M RESULTS

Our genetic counselor will assist you in understanding the process of PGT-A testing, as well as all the possible results using patient-friendly language and visual aids. Our genetic counselor will help you understand the limitations and benefits of PGT-A/PGT-M screening and how the results may impact your reproductive decision-making.

DISCUSS CARRIER SCREENING RESULTS

Our genetic counselor will educate you on what your genetic test results mean, what that means for yourself and other family members, the risks to your children (if any), and discuss if further testing is needed. Depending on your results, our genetic counselor can also provide you with education about using assisted reproductive technologies (PGT-M) to lessen genetic risks to offspring.

DISCUSS PERSONAL & FAMILY MEDICAL HISTORY

Review a 3-generation family history and discuss any risks for future generations.
