If you are curious about ovarian rejuvenation, this overview will help you understand the basics. The term generally refers to one of two Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) fertility treatments: ovarian rejuvenation and uterine rejuvenation. Below, we explain how both approaches work, how they may support fertility, and who is considered a good candidate.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment

PRP is a 100% natural, medication-free method that uses your own platelets to promote cellular repair and stimulate reproductive function. By harnessing your body’s innate regenerative capacity, PRP may help improve conditions that affect fertility.

What is PRP?

PRP is a concentrated solution of platelets, growth factors, and cytokines derived from a small sample of your own blood. When introduced into ovarian tissue or the uterine cavity, PRP promotes cellular rejuvenation, enhances blood flow, and may improve overall reproductive potential.

Types of PRP Treatments Offered

Ovarian Rejuvenation
PRP is injected directly into the ovaries to help stimulate follicle development and support ovarian function.

Uterine Rejuvenation
PRP is infused into the uterine cavity to promote healthy blood flow and tissue regeneration, which may improve implantation potential.

PRP Procedures

Ovarian Rejuvenation Procedure
This treatment is performed in our surgical suite as an outpatient procedure. To ensure comfort, patients may receive either local anesthesia or intravenous (IV) sedation administered by a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist.

Using a transvaginal approach, the physician injects PRP into the ovaries. The procedure typically lasts 15–20 minutes. Afterward, you will be monitored in a recovery area for about one hour before being discharged. If sedation is used, you should have someone accompany you home.

Uterine Rejuvenation Procedure
This procedure is performed in an exam room. While in a dorsal-lithotomy position, PRP is gently infused into the uterine cavity. The process takes approximately 15 minutes and requires no post-procedure recovery time.

Side Effects

After either procedure, you will be instructed to avoid inserting anything into the vagina for 24–48 hours.

Next Steps

Following treatment, your doctor will typically recommend weekly monitoring with bloodwork and ultrasound to assess your response. Results have been observed as early as 2 to 8 weeks post-procedure.

How PRP Is Obtained

PRP is prepared through a simple three-step process:

  1. A phlebotomist draws a blood sample from your forearm.
  2. The sample is placed in a centrifuge for approximately 10 minutes to separate PRP from red blood cells.
  3. The concentrated plasma (PRP) is collected into a syringe for use in the procedure.

Does Ovarian Rejuvenation Improve Egg Quality?

At New Hope, PRP is offered for both ovarian and uterine applications, particularly for patients with low AMH or related conditions. Many patients ask whether PRP can improve egg quality. While PRP is still considered experimental, we have observed encouraging positive trends in ovarian response and egg quality in appropriately selected patients.

Benefits of Ovarian and Uterine PRP

Potential benefits may include:

  • Improved ovarian function
  • Longer fertility window
  • Higher likelihood of IVF success
  • Minimal side effects and fast recovery
  • Reduced need for donor eggs

Candidates for PRP

You may be a suitable candidate if you have experienced:

  • Poor egg quality
  • Low egg quantity
  • Poor response to IVF
  • Failed embryo transfer
  • Thin endometrial lining
  • Recurrent implantation failure
  • Low ovarian reserve (low AMH)
