At New Hope Fertility Center, we promote single embryo transfers to reduce the risks associated with twins and multiple births (unless our patients specifically request otherwise). We encourage women who have their surplus embryos (those remaining after the embryo transfer) frozen using our vitrification freezing method.
While we have been a long-standing champion of single embryo transfers (SET), it has taken time for people to understand the benefits of safer and more responsible IVF practices. We are happy to watch, however, as more and more governing organizations join our cause.
When SART (Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology) released statistics in early 2011 profiling fertility clinics around the nation, it also highlighted the fertility sector's development as a patient-centered industry, which includes the customized care involved in SET. Although the numbers nationwide are lower than they could be, the percentage of people requesting SET was 7.2% in 2009, up from 5.2% in 2008 and 0.7% in 2003. We hope to watch this number continue to grow as our fertility techniques become more widely understood!
